A Father's Remorse - Page 5 Empty

At one point, about an hour in, Kai approached the forge door slowly, carefully. Stepping inside, she would drop into a seat on the floor. She and Whynter exchanged a silent look that even with a lack of words spoke volumes. Whynter moved out of the chair and down to the floor next to her. Shifting so that she could curl up with her head in the older woman's lap, no one was around to see the brief look of shock that crossed Kai's features at the action. One of her hands moved tentatively to start running her fingers through the younger woman's bone white hair. It did not take long at all before Whynter drifted off into sleep. Tears fell quietly down Kai's cheeks not long after, the sound of Steele working his metals drowning out whatever noise there was of them.

His work came to an end abruptly. The chain he held in his hand glowed dimly with an ethereal sheen. He turned and looked at Kai smiling. Keep an eye on her. I will return, as me. And he marched out of the Forge closing the door behind him. Sal knew what to do shifting them back to Mortalis, out of the Umbra. Steele watched his Forge disperse before turning and taking out a stone. Focusing some Gnosis into it he throws it a short distance in front of him. The silvery gate that opened in front of him showed Lightning ready to fight, standing against the large norseman, and another strange male and female. He stepped through the gate with no fear. Maybe his gift would ease the man.

She had lost track of time while Steele worked, her fingers never ceasing their soothing path through the sleeping girl's hair. At some point dreams must have started that had her shifting restlessly before eventually calming. When Steele made his request to watch her, she nodded.

"I'll take her to my guest cabin. It'll be easy enough to let her rest there. Good luck with whatever you're going to do."

She didn't expect a response and was not offended when she didn't get one. Shifting the sleeping Whynter enough that she could push to her feet, she carefully made her way to her cabin.
